Under general supervision of the Accounting Administrator I, Supervisor (Operations Unit), the Accounting Officer, Specialist, will perform a variety of professional accounting work associated with the California Oil Recycling Enhancement Act, the California Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003, and the California Beverage Container Recycling & Litter Reduction Act. Staff are expected to keep up to date on changes to legislation.
The incumbent is responsible for auditing, reviewing, and scheduling of claims pursuant to Public Resources Codes (PRC), California Code of Regulations (CCR), State Administrative Manual (SAM), other statutes and regulations, as well as other control agency directives. It is essential that staff maintains cooperative and constructive relationships with CalRecycle staff and contacts outside of CalRecycle and uses work time effectively/efficiently in completing all assignments within agreed upon deadlines. Follows instructions and accepts supervisor suggestions for work improvement. Follows policies and procedures established by CalRecycle and various laws/rules governing accounting reporting. This position may require overtime during peak times and special projects, and vacations may not be authorized.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense. 1. Accounts payable experience
2. Expenditure tracking, accounting information systems, or preparation of accounting batches or reports experience.
3. Knowledge and experience with governmental accounting principles and procedures.
4. Experience with FI$Cal and/or other accounting software/systems.
5. Experience with computer applications; including Adobe Acrobat (PDF) and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
6. Experience following and wri ting procedures.
7. Experience with performing reconciliations and preparing documents to meet auditing standards.
8. Customer service experience.
