Job Description

The Department of Communication Studies Film and New Media at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate courses in 2025. 

This search will establish a pool of instructors if such openings occur during Spring Summer or Fall of 2025. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an asneeded basis throughout the year. 

Course topics may include: film foundations film production editing with Adobe cinematography film sound studio production new media animation documentary electronic literature web design and/or game design.

Augsburgs Communication Studies Film and New Media department is distinctive as an active liberal arts program in the middle of a vibrant urban arts and media community. We offer programs in film production film studies new media promotional communication web design and game design. 

The successful candidate will possess both a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation. We value collaborations with media professionals as they provide resources and opportunities for student learning and professional development. Candidates are encouraged to highlight skills and experiences that demonstrate these abilities and experiences.

Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day 23 days per week. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email hold regularly scheduled office hours reach out to students with course progress information use the learning management system (Moodle) for grading and supplemental course content and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar textbook and homework selection sample activities and exams and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught inperson on our Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 1215 hours/week for 1516 weeks.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Subject to the collective bargaining agreement with SEIU Local 284
  • $5500 to $6550 per course*

*Course refers to a typical 4credit undergraduate or 3credit graduate course that has met minimum enrollment requirements.

Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction applies even to courses taught online.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or MFA in Film New Media or related field.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and significant professional experience; or PhD or MFA in Film New Media or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience required.  Professional activity may be corporate artistic and/or scholarly.
