Salary is Non-Negotiable. The successful candidate will be hired at the minimum salary.

 

This position is responsible for presiding as a Title IV-D Hearing Officer/General Magistrate over Child Support Enforcement Court hearings, some of which are referred by a Circuit Court Judge on paternity related issues. This position is also responsible for conducting hearings and making a determination on the issues. Additional responsibilities include overseeing office operations, including general supervision of an administrative assistant.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conducts evidentiary hearings via Zoom. While conducting the hearings, record the hearings and take contemporaneous electronic notes in an online calendar.
  • Reviews and signs Recommended Orders prepared by the State Attorney’s office.
  • Reviews court files and the court docket to prepare for hearings.
  • Supervises the administrative assistant and assigns daily tasks and work duties.
  • Conducts legal research in preparation for hearings and prepare recommended orders.
  • Attends and conducts regular and special meetings with Judges, Magistrates, Hearing Officers, Court Administration, legal and staff.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including completing job related paper work such as timesheets, travel expense reports or benefit forms.
  • Attends seminars, meetings, classes, workshops and conferences to improve professional skills.
  • Conducts legal seminars and participates in Bar Functions.
  • Reads and reviews professional journals and case law updates to stay current on the regulations and statues governing family court.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited Law School.
  • Member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the practice of law.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of family law practice and procedure.
  • Thorough knowledge of Florida state laws and court rulings as they pertain to their assigned division of the court.
  • Thorough knowledge of general and specific laws, state laws, established precedents, and sources of legal reference.
  • Thorough knowledge of court procedures, rules of evidence and trial and courtroom procedures. Knowledge of the responsibilities and authority of General Magistrates and Hearing Officers.
  • Ability to apply legal principles and specialized knowledge to individual cases and problems.
  • Ability to conduct legal research.
  • Ability to prepare for hearings, hear cases, and present material clearly and logically in oral and written form.
  • Ability to work with litigants who are in stressful situations.
  • Ability to establish responsibilities.

Licenses Certifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Law School; Member in good standing of the Florida Bar.
