The Role:

• Ability to teach using various dance styles and methodologies from beginner to advanced level.
• Create a dance curriculum and lesson plans appropriate for the class; this might include:
  
  • To recognize the significance of dance in society, notable contributors to dance, and a body of significant dance works,
  • To apply compositional tools and choreographic principles,
  • To understand dance terms and vocabularies by moving (kinetic) and speaking, (conceptual) dance languages,
  • To use universally accepted dance vocabulary, terminology, and symbols of dance.
    
• Ability to communicate and teach a diverse group of students, ages 10-14.
• Engage, encourage, and motivate students to reach their goals.
• Evaluate student performance and make recommendations for improvement.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Choreograph routines and select music for culminating events in collaboration with other activity specialists in the after-school program.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities
• Organize performance groups, and direct their rehearsals, put on performances at the site-level
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in daily dance activities such as warm-up, movement across the floor, center activity and combinations as well as activities that lead to full performance pieces, workshops, etc.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of materials and equipment 
  
• The anticipated start date for this role is December 9, 2024, with an expected end date of May 21, 2025

About You: 

• 2+ years of Dance Education experience to youth grades K-12.
• Knowledgeable and skilled in one or more styles of dance and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in dance
• Energetic, driven, creative, and dependable.
• Understands the importance of being responsible, reliable, and punctual
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
• Ability to perform conflict resolution
• 2+ years experience working as a provider in a non-profit organization.
  

Strongly preferred skills:

• Extensive and advanced level of training in different forms of dance.
• Knowledge and prior experience choreographing dance works and putting a performance together.
• Candidates who are qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity preferred as well.
• High level of interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written.
• Knowledge and prior experience choreographing dance works and putting a performance together.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with the ability to shift priorities.
• Collaborative in spirit and in action Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team

Salary:

Employees at Prospect Schools are provided with a competitive salary. Our salaries are set through a lens of equity, and based on an individual’s skills, education, and years of experience relevant to the role. The salary range for this role is from $61,000-$102,880, based on experience and years of education.
