Job Description

In conjunction with the Head of the Middle School, World Language Department Chair, and World Language Department colleagues, teach two Middle School French courses by employing engaging, activity-based, and 21st-century pedagogical practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:

• Serve as a member of the World Language Department, attend departmental meetings, develop and update course curricula, and support the work of the department
• Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

• A bachelor’s degree in language study, education, or a related field is required, advanced degree preferred
• Classroom experience teaching French and a demonstrated passion for language acquisition
• Advanced proficiency in French
• An understanding of language proficiency levels and a willingness to use and continue to create a proficiency-based curriculum
• A desire to teach communicative, interactive, task-based language classes
• Knowledge of Francophone history and culture
• Ability to integrate technology, use innovative curricula, and employ best pedagogical practices
• Understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students
• Ability to differentiate instruction when necessary to reach all levels of learners
• Collaborative spirit in developing curricula and teaching methods, both within the department and across other disciplines
• Flexibility, optimism, creativity, high expectations, and a growth mindset
• Enthusiastic involvement in the school community outside the classroom
• Proven positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
• Proven organizational skills
• Understanding of independent schools preferred
