Job Overview

The role involves conducting echocardiograms to assess various aspects of the heart, aiding physicians in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Job Description As a Cardiac Sonographer within our Heart Center, you will work alongside pediatric critical care medicine physicians and hospitalists, ensuring round-the-clock, top-notch care for patients with critical needs.

Responsibilities extend to scanning patients in various settings, including NICU, PICU, CVOR, Pedi Cath Labs, and traveling to multiple outpatient clinics, collaborating closely with cardiologists.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Graduation from an accredited program in Cardiac Sonography Technology, Radiologic Technology, or Sonography Technology is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications :

• Mandatory Basic or Advanced Life Support certification.
• One of the following is required:
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
  • Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
• RCS or RDCS AE holders must obtain RCCS or RDCS PE within 18 months of employment.

Experience and Skills :

• No previous experience necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and conduct echocardiogram examinations for pediatric congenital patients, ensuring adherence to departmental procedures and patient comfort.
• Ensure ultrasound examinations align with patient clinical histories and inform physicians of any procedure contraindications.
• Display expertise in various echocardiogram techniques.
• Review patient medical records to gather history and information for diagnostic procedures, and prepare preliminary reports for cardiologist interpretation.
• Conduct measurements and calculations following laboratory and IAC protocols, providing preliminary findings to cardiologists.
• Support and guide Cardiac Sonographers and Cardiology Fellows with procedural preparations and image reviews.
• Facilitate the onboarding of new Sonographers through departmental orientation and training.
• Perform routine equipment quality assurance, maintenance, and report any malfunctions.
• Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement, and patient care conferences to foster ongoing education and professional development.
• Engage in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to the call schedule in accordance with departmental standards.
• Encourage professional growth by meeting mandatory education and skill competency requirements, and support organizational goals.
• Collaborate effectively with a healthcare team to provide comprehensive patient care.
