Department Overview

 The Safety and Infrastructure Protection Team (SIPT) serves under the Wildfire Operations (WO) – Wildfire, Emergency and Operations (WEO) organization and performs wildfire mitigation, wildfire prevention, asset protection, and emergency fire response to support PG&E’s stand that catastrophic wildfires shall stop. The purpose of the SIPT organization is to safeguard PG&E coworkers and our communities by protecting our infrastructure through ignition containment, hazard mitigation, and emergency response. To accomplish this, the team performs a wide range of emergency response, wildfire mitigation, and routine work activities.

Position Summary

Partners with field leaders in all PG&E lines of business to develop and recommend a strategic direction for utility emergency preparedness, emergency response and public partnerships. Provides primary supervision to SIPT field personnel during routine work and emergency response. Oversees staff involved in implementation of emergency plans & processes, training, emergency exercises/drills, communication and actual incident management. Responsible for team execution of work plans, safety goals and program objectives. Serves as a liaison with public safety agencies during emergencies. Ensures compliance with all company and regulatory safety policies and practices.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the Central Coast (South) or Los Padres Divisions of the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​  This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Bay Area – $126,000 - $179,300


And/or

California - $120,000 - $170,500

Job Responsibilities

• Provides day – to - day direction to staff involved in planning and implementing emergency preparedness training and providing ongoing support and consultation to Functional Areas.
• As needed, implements policies, procedures and systems required for maintaining and enhancing the overall emergency management to include preparation, prevention, response and recovery.
• Partners with Manager on needs assessment, training planning determination of most effective training methods and tools. Collaborates with PG&E Academy on training content development to streamline and improve the company’s ability to respond to emergencies.
• Develops and documents emergency preparedness plans, processes, procedures and roles. Presents recommendations for procedures and processes to Manager and/or Director. Ensures staff maintain and update processes and procedures as business needs change.
• Directs team in identifying and exploring continuous process improvement.
• Plans, facilitates and schedules regular emergency training exercises. Determines the target audience, oversees training scheduling and communication. Monitors training attendance. Conduct de-brief sessions after each exercises to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• May coordinate with state and local emergency management authorities during emergency and non-emergency events.
• Supervises staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition. 
• Supervises multiple SIPT Lead and Technicians across a broad geographic area. 
• Identifies and supports SIPT daily work projects.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
• 5 years total related experience.
• 3 years of experience in emergency management or related field 
• Ability to travel using personal vehicle

Desired:

• Associates Degree and or Bachelors Degree in Emergency Management or job-related discipline or equivalent experience. (i.e. Fire Science, Natural Resources management)
• 5 years’ experience as a full-time, paid Chief Officer in a fire service organization 
• ICS certification and qualifications at the Command or General Staff level
• Experience assigned to a Type 1 Incident Management Team at or above the Unit Leader level
• Demonstrated knowledge of wildland fire behavior and modern suppression techniques
• Experience in developing and delivering fire service training curriculum
• Experience in evaluating employee performance, coaching/mentoring employees, and applying Positive Discipline (or equivalent) to modify employee behavior
• Understanding of Safety and Infrastructure Protection program organization and goals
• Utility industry experience , job related
• Experience in restoration and control or other operational area in electric or gas utility.
• ICS – Incident Command System- 100 – 400 certification
• NIMS -National Incident Management System IS700 & IS800 certification
• Understanding of emergency management concepts, principles and practices.
• Good knowledge in employee training concepts, practices and methods.
